World Competitive Index 2020:Switzerland-based International Institute for Management and Development’s (IMD) World Competitiveness Centre (WCC) has released a 32nd World Competitive Index 2020 report.India continues to remain ranked 43rd with some traditional weaknesses like poor infrastructure and insufficient education investment keeping its ranking low. Democracy Index 2020 :The Democracy Index is published by the Economist Intelligence Unit (EUI) every year since 2006. The EIU Democracy Index Measures the democracy of 167 countries ( 165 independent states and two territories ) around the world.The Democracy Index is based on five categories: electoral process and pluralism, civil liberties, the functioning of government, political participation, and political culture. Each country is then classified as one of four types of regime: full democracy, flawed democracy, hybrid regime, or authoritarian regime. Out of 167 countries, the Democracy Index classifies 23 countries as full democracies, 52 as flawed democracies, 35 as hybrid regimes, and 57 as authoritarian regimes. India has been classified as a ‘flawed democracy’ along with countries such as the US, France, Belgium, and Brazil. latest Democracy Index report titled “Democracy in sickness and in health?”. Global Talent Competitive Index (GTCI) 2020 :Global Talent Competitive Index (GTCI) 2020 has been released by INSEAD Business School with the help of Google and Adecco Group at the annual meeting of the World Economic Forum (WEF) on January 22, 2020. INSEAD, a partner and sponsor of the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) in Davos, Switzerland recently.The theme of the GCTI Report 2020 is “ Global Talent in the Age of Artificial Intelligence”. this seventh edition of GTCI explores how the development of Artificial Intelligence (AI) is changing the nature of work and forcing a re-evaluation of workplace practices, corporate structures, and innovation ecosystems. GCTI report was started in 2013. This year India climbed eight ranks and secured the 72nd rank in the index and Last year’s rank was 80th. Ease of Doing Business 2020 :Ease of Doing Business 2020 is a report published by The World Bank to ‘Compare Business Regulation in 190 Economies’ India has ranked at 63rd position in the said report published by The World Bank.Doing Business 2020 is the 17th in a series of annual studies investigating the regulations that enhance business activity and those that constrain it. Doing Business presents quantitative indicators on business regulations and the protection of property rights that can be compared across 190 economies. Doing Business measures aspects of business regulation affecting small domestic firms located in the largest business city of 190 economies. In addition, for 11 economies a second city is covered. Doing Business covers 12 areas of business regulation. Global Competitiveness Index 2019 :Global Competitiveness Report is a yearly report published by the World Economic Forum (WEF) Since 2004. The Global Competitiveness Index integrates the macroeconomic and the micro/business aspects of competitiveness into a single index. The report “assesses the ability of countries to provide high levels of prosperity to their citizens”.The report notes that as a nation develops, wages tend to increase and that in order to sustain this higher income, labor productivity must improve for the nation to be competitive. Thus, the GCI separates countries into three specific stages: factor-driven, efficiency-driven, and innovation-driven, each implying a growing degree of complexity in the operation of the economy. The release of the 2019 edition of the Global Competitiveness Report features the Global Competitiveness Index 4.0 (GCI 4.0). The World Economic Forum (WEF) introduced the new Global Competitiveness Index 4.0 in 2018. The GCI 4.0 is the fourth and latest iteration of the methodology used by the Global Competitiveness Report. GCI 4.0 provides a detailed map of the factors and attributes that drive productivity, growth, and human development in the era of the Fourth Industrial Revolution. The GCI 4.0 covers 141 economies, which account for 99% of the world’s GDP. As per the 2019 GCR report, INDIA rank is 68th and INDIA slipped 10th Places below the previous Year 2018 rank 58th. India ranks high on macroeconomic stability (90, 43rd) and market size (93.7, 3rd),. India performs well when it comes to innovation (50.9, 35th), well ahead of most emerging economies, and on par with several advanced economies. Energy Transition Index 2020 :Energy Transition Index (RTI) 2020 Released by World Economic Forum (WEF). WEF is an independent international organization based in Geneva, Switzerland. WEF established in 1971. The index benchmarks 115 economies on the current performance of their energy systems across economic development and growth, environmental sustainability and energy security and access indicators, and their readiness for transition to secure, sustainable, affordable, and inclusive energy systems.INDIA rank is 74th out of the 115 countries, only Argentina, Bulgaria, China, the Czech Republic, the Dominican Republic, India, Ireland, Italy, the Slovak Republic, Sri Lanka, and Ukraine have made consistent and measurable progress on their energy transition over the past six years. Social Mobility Index 2020 :The World Economic Forum (WEF) has created a new index to measure social mobility. The Global Social Mobility Index, which benchmarks 82 global economies. Social mobility can be understood as the movement in personal circumstances either “upwards” or “downwards” of an individual in relation to those of their parents.In absolute terms, it is the ability of a child to experience a better life than their parents. On the Other hand Relative social mobility is an assessment of the impact of socio-economic background on an individual’s outcomes in life. The Global Social Mobility Index, however, focuses on drivers of relative social mobility instead of outcomes. It looks at policies, practices, and institutions. This allows it to enable effective comparisons throughout regions and generations. It uses 10 pillars, which in turn are broken down into five determinants of social mobility – health, education, technology access, work opportunities, working conditions and fair wages, and finally, social protection and inclusive institutions. INDIA rank is 76th out of 82. Top performer countries are Denmark 1st, Norway 2nd, Finland 3rd, Sweden 4th, and Iceland 5th. |

Sustainability Index 2020 :India ranked 77th on a sustainability index that takes into account per capita carbon emissions and the ability of children in a nation to live healthy lives and secures 131st spot on a flourishing ranking that measures the best chance at survival and well-being for children according to an UN-backed report.The Sustainability Index ranks countries on excess carbon emissions compared with the 2030 target. This provides a convenient and available proxy for a country’s contribution to sustainability in the future. The report assessing the capacity of 180 countries to ensure that their youngsters can survive and thrive. India ranks 77th on the Sustainability Index and 131 on the Flourishing Index. Norway leads the table for survival, health, education, and nutrition rates – followed by South Korea and the Netherlands. The central African Republic, Chad, and Somalia come at the bottom. |

The Sustainable Developments Goals report 2020 :The Sustainable Development Report (SDR) 2020, including the SDG (Sustainable Development Goals ) Index and Dashboards, was released. It was written by lead author Jeffrey Sachs and a team of independent experts working at the Sustainable Development Solutions Network (SDSN) and Bertelsmann Stiftung, and published by Cambridge University Press.The Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) or Global Goals are a collection of 17 interlinked global goals designed to be a “blueprint to achieve a better and more sustainable future for all” The SDGs were set up in 2015 by the United Nations General Assembly and are intended to be achieved by the year 2030. They are included in a UN Resolution called the 2030 Agenda or what is colloquially known as Agenda 2030. The 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development was launched in 2015 to end poverty and set the world on a path of peace, prosperity, and opportunity for all on a healthy planet. The Sustainable Development Report 2020 describes each country’s progress towards achieving the SDGs and indicates areas requiring faster progress. The 2020 SDG Index covers 166 countries, compared with 162 countries in 2019. The additional countries included this year are Barbados, Brunei Darussalam, Somalia, and South Sudan. Corruption Perception Index 2020 :The Corruption Perceptions Index (CPI) is an index published annually by Berlin-Germany-based Transparency International since 1995 which ranks countries “by their perceived levels of public sector corruption, as determined by expert assessments and opinion surveys.India’s rank has slipped six places to 86th among 180 countries in Corruption Perception Index (CPI) 2020. It uses a scale of zero (highly corrupt) to 100 (very clean). India was ranked at 80th position out of 180 countries in 2019. In 2019, India’s score was 41. The top-ranked countries on the Corruption Perception Index (CPI) are Denmark and New Zealand, with scores of 88, followed by Finland, Singapore, Sweden, and Switzerland, with scores of 85 each. South Sudan and Somalia are the bottom Countries with scores of 12 each, followed by Syria (14), Yemen (15), and Venezuela (15). |

Henley Passport Index 2020 :The Henley Passport Index Prepared by Henley & Partners, the residence and citizenship planning firm. It started in 2006 as Henley & Partners Visa Restrictions Index (HVRI) and was modified and renamed in January 2018.It provides a ranking of all the world’s passports according to the number of destinations their holders can access without a prior visa. The site provides a ranking for 199 passports of the world according to the number of countries their holders can travel to visa-free. In collaboration with the International Air Transport Association (IATA), and based on official data from their global database Henley & Partners has analyzed the visa regulations of the vast majority of the countries and territories in the world since 2006. International Smart City Index 2020 :The Institute for Management Development (IMD), in collaboration with Singapore University for Technology and Design (SUTD), has released the 2020 Smart City Index (SCI), with key findings on how technology is playing a role in the COVID-19 era in a way that is likely to remain.In the 2020 Smart City Index, 109 cities were surveyed. The Smart City Index ranks cities based on economic and technological data, as well as by their citizens’ perceptions of how “smart” their cities are. Singapore, Helsinki, and Zurich have come top in the 2020 Smart City Index. Global Hunger Index 2020 :The Global Hunger Index is a peer-reviewed annual report, jointly published by Concern Worldwide and Welthungerhilfe, designed to comprehensively measure and track hunger at the global, regional, and country levels. The aim of the GHI is to trigger action to reduce hunger around the world.GHI scores are based on the values of four component indicators: Undernourishment (share of the population with insufficient caloric intake), Child Wasting (share of children under age five who have low weight for their height, reflecting acute undernutrition), Child Stunting (share of children under age five who have low height for their age, reflecting chronic undernutrition), and Child Mortality (mortality rate of children under age five, partly reflecting the fatal mix of inadequate nutrition and unhealthy environments). Based on the values of the four indicators, the GHI determines hunger on a 100-point scale where 0 is the best possible score (no hunger) and 100 is the worst. Each country’s GHI score is classified by severity, from low to extremely alarming. For the 2020 GHI report, data were assessed for 132 countries. Out of these, there was sufficient data to calculate 2020 GHI scores for and rank 107 countries. India ranked 94 among 107 countries in the Global Hunger Index 2020 and is in the ‘serious’ hunger category with a score of 27.2. India’s rank was 102 out of 117 countries last year. |

Global Economic Freedom of the World Report 2020:The Economic Freedom of the World: 2020 Annual Report by Canada’s Fraser Institute has been released in India in conjunction with the New Delhi-based think tank Centre For Civil Society.This is the 24th edition of Economic Freedom of the World. India has Slipped 26 spots to the 105th position on the Global Economic Freedom Index 2020. The country was at the 79th spot in last year’s rankings. India has been ranked higher than China, which stands at the 124th position. The degree of freedom in this report is measured in five broad areas. They are Size of Government, Legal System and Property Rights, Sound Money, Freedom to Trade Internationally, Regulation. |

Global Gender Gap Index 2020 :The Global Gender Gap Report was first published in 2006 by the World Economic Forum (WEF). The 2020 report covers 153 countries. The Global Gender Gap Index is an index designed to measure gender equality.The report’s Gender Gap Index ranks countries according to the calculated gender gap between women and men in four key areas: health, education, economy, and politics to gauge the state of gender equality in a country. India had ranked 112th among 153 countries in the Global Gender Gap Index 2020. Childhood Development Index 2020 :The End of Childhood Index is part of the Global Childhood Report released by UK-based Save the Children, a non-profit organization that works for child rights. Save the Children’s Fourth annual End of Childhood Index compares the latest data for 180 countries.The index evaluates countries on eight indicators to determine the wellbeing of children and teenagers (0-19 years): Mortality among children under five years of age, malnutrition that stunts growth, Lack of education, Child labor, Early marriage, Adolescent Births, Displacement by conflict, Child homicide. Human Capital Index 2020 :The World Bank released the Human Capital Index (HCI) report for 2020. World Bank released the report titled “The Human Capital Index 2020 Update: Human Capital in the Time of COVID-19”. Human capital— the knowledge, skills, and health that people accumulate over their lives—is a central driver of sustainable growth and poverty reduction.The Human Capital Index (HCI) is an international metric that benchmarks the key components of human capital across economies. It was launched in 2018 as part of the Human Capital Project, a global effort to accelerate progress toward a world where all children can achieve their full potential. The Human Capital Index 2020 Update Human Capital in the Time of COVID-19 presents the first update of the HCI, using health and education data available as of March 2020. Human Development Index 2020 :The Human Development Index released Under United Nation Development Program. The HDI is the measure of a country’s health, education, and standard of living, and determines a nation’s average achievement in three basic scales of human development education, life expectancy, and per capita income.Education (mean years of schooling completed and expected years of schooling upon entering the education system), and per capita income indicators, which are used to rank countries into four tiers of human development. The index is based on the human development approach, developed by Mahbub ul Haq, often framed in terms of whether people are able to “be” and “do” desirable things in life. The origins of the HDI are found in the annual Human Development Reports produced by the Human Development Report Office of the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP). These were devised and launched by Pakistani economist Mahbubul Haq in 1990, and had the explicit purpose “to shift the focus of development economics from national income accounting to people-centered policies”. World Press Freedom Index 2020 :The Paris-based Reporters Without Borders (RSF) publishes annually a World Press Freedom Index (WPFI) purporting to evaluate the level of freedom available to the media in 180 countries.From a rank of 80 in the inaugural WPFI report, 2002, India’s rank fell to 122 in 2010 and 131 in 2012. In 2020 Report of WPFI has ranked India at 142, down 2 places from 2019. The WPFI 2020 is compiled on the basis of an online questionnaire comprising 83 questions, answered by 18 freedom of expression NGOs, many of which are funded by the RSF, and a network of around 150 correspondents, and researchers, jurists, and human rights activists, usually selected by the correspondents. This qualitative questionnaire is used to calculate scores on six parameters in the index – pluralism, media independence, media environment and self-censorship, legislative framework, transparency, and quality of infrastructure that support the production of news and information. This score is combined with quantitative data on abuses and acts of violence against journalists, to arrive at the overall WPFI score. Top Ranked countries are Norway 1st, Finland 2nd, Denmark 3rd, Sweden 4th, Netherlands 5th. |

World Happiness Report 2020 :The World Happiness Report is a publication of the United Nations Sustainable Development Solutions Network (SDSN). The World Happiness Report is a landmark survey of the state of global happiness that ranks 156 countries by how happy their citizens perceive themselves to be.The World Happiness Report 2020 for the first time ranks cities around the world by their subjective well-being. The data used to rank countries in the World Happiness Report is drawn from the Gallup World Poll, as well as other sources such as the World Values Survey. Environmental Performance Index 2020 :The Environmental Performance Index (EPI) is a biennial (occurring every 2 years) index Prepared by Yale University (Yale Center for Environmental Law and Policy) and Columbia University (Center for International Earth Science Information Network) in collaboration with the World Economic Forum and the Joint Research Centre of the European Commission With support from The McCall MacBain Foundation based in Canada.The 2020 Environmental Performance Index (EPI) ranks 180 countries on 32 performance indicators in the following 11 issue categories: air quality, sanitation and drinking water, heavy metals, waste management, biodiversity and habitat, ecosystem services, fisheries, climate change, pollution emissions, agriculture, and water resources. The EPI ranks 180 countries on environmental health and ecosystem vitality. EPI indicators provide a way to spot problems, set targets, track trends, understand outcomes, and identify best policy practices. INDIA ranked 168th among 180 countries in EPI 2020 report. The top 5 ranked countries are Denmark, Luxembourg, Switzerland, United Kingdom, and France. |
